Chapter 2

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

Mein Kind, so du willst meine Rede annehmen und meine Gebote bei dir behalten,

So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

daß dein Ohr auf Weisheit achthat und du dein Herz mit Fleiß dazu neigest;

Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

ja, so du mit Fleiß darnach rufest und darum betest;

If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

so du sie suchest wie Silber und nach ihr froschest wie nach Schätzen:

Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

alsdann wirst du die Furcht des HERRN verstehen und Gottes Erkenntnis finden.

For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Denn der HERR gibt Weisheit, und aus seinem Munde kommt Erkenntnis und Verstand.

He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

Er läßt's den Aufrichtigen gelingen und beschirmt die Frommen

He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

und behütet die, so recht tun, und bewahrt den Weg seiner Heiligen.

Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

Alsdann wirst du verstehen Gerechtigkeit und Recht und Frömmigkeit und allen guten Weg.

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

Denn Weisheit wird in dein Herz eingehen, daß du gerne lernst;

Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

guter Rat wird dich bewahren, und Verstand wird dich behüten,

To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

daß du nicht geratest auf den Weg der Bösen noch unter die verkehrten Schwätzer,

Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

die da verlassen die rechte Bahn und gehen finstere Wege,

Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

die sich freuen, Böses zu tun, und sind fröhlich in ihrem bösen, verkehrten Wesen,

Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

welche ihren Weg verkehren und folgen ihrem Abwege;

To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

daß du nicht geratest an eines andern Weib, an eine Fremde, die glatte Worte gibt

Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

und verläßt den Freund ihrer Jugend und vergißt den Bund ihres Gottes

For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

(denn ihr Haus neigt sich zum Tod und ihre Gänge zu den Verlorenen;

None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

alle, die zu ihr eingehen, kommen nicht wieder und ergreifen den Weg des Lebens nicht);

That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

auf daß du wandelst auf gutem Wege und bleibst auf der rechten Bahn.

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

Denn die Gerechten werden im Lande wohnen, und die Frommen werden darin bleiben;

But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

aber die Gottlosen werden aus dem Lande ausgerottet, und die Verächter werden daraus vertilgt.
