Chapter 2

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

Insorgono i re della terra e i principi congiurano insieme contro il Signore e contro il suo Messia:

Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

«Spezziamo le loro catene, gettiamo via i loro legami».

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

Se ne ride chi abita i cieli, li schernisce dall'alto il Signore.

Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

Egli parla loro con ira, li spaventa nel suo sdegno:

Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

«Io l'ho costituito mio sovrano sul Sion mio santo monte».

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Annunzierò il decreto del Signore. Egli mi ha detto: «Tu sei mio figlio, io oggi ti ho generato.

Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

Chiedi a me, ti darò in possesso le genti e in dominio i confini della terra.

Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

Le spezzerai con scettro di ferro, come vasi di argilla le frantumerai».

Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

E ora, sovrani, siate saggi istruitevi, giudici della terra;

Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

servite Dio con timore e con tremore esultate;

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

che non si sdegni e voi perdiate la via. Improvvisa divampa la sua ira. Beato chi in lui si rifugia.
