Chapter 139

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

tu sai quando seggo e quando mi alzo. Penetri da lontano i miei pensieri,

Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

mi scruti quando cammino e quando riposo. Ti sono note tutte le mie vie;

For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

la mia parola non è ancora sulla lingua e tu, Signore, gia la conosci tutta.

Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

Alle spalle e di fronte mi circondi e poni su di me la tua mano.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

Stupenda per me la tua saggezza, troppo alta, e io non la comprendo.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

Dove andare lontano dal tuo spirito, dove fuggire dalla tua presenza?

If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

Se salgo in cielo, là tu sei, se scendo negli inferi, eccoti.

If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

Se prendo le ali dell'aurora per abitare all'estremità del mare,

Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

anche là mi guida la tua mano e mi afferra la tua destra.

If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

Se dico: «Almeno l'oscurità mi copra e intorno a me sia la notte»

Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

nemmeno le tenebre per te sono oscure, e la notte è chiara come il giorno; per te le tenebre sono come luce.

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

Sei tu che hai creato le mie viscere e mi hai tessuto nel seno di mia madre.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Ti lodo, perché mi hai fatto come un prodigio; sono stupende le tue opere, tu mi conosci fino in fondo.

My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Non ti erano nascoste le mie ossa quando venivo formato nel segreto, intessuto nelle profondità della terra.

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Ancora informe mi hanno visto i tuoi occhi e tutto era scritto nel tuo libro; i miei giorni erano fissati, quando ancora non ne esisteva uno.

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

Quanto profondi per me i tuoi pensieri, quanto grande il loro numero, o Dio;

If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

se li conto sono più della sabbia, se li credo finiti, con te sono ancora.

Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.

Se Dio sopprimesse i peccatori! Allontanatevi da me, uomini sanguinari.

For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

Essi parlano contro di te con inganno: contro di te insorgono con frode.

Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

Non odio, forse, Signore, quelli che ti odiano e non detesto i tuoi nemici?

I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

Li detesto con odio implacabile come se fossero miei nemici.

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

Scrutami, Dio, e conosci il mio cuore, provami e conosci i miei pensieri:

And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

vedi se percorro una via di menzogna e guidami sulla via della vita.
