Chapter 15

Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

In quel tempo vennero a Gesù da Gerusalemme alcuni farisei e alcuni scribi e gli dissero:

Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

«Perché i tuoi discepoli trasgrediscono la tradizione degli antichi? Poiché non si lavano le mani quando prendono cibo!».

But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

Ed egli rispose loro: «Perché voi trasgredite il comandamento di Dio in nome della vostra tradizione?

For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

Dio ha detto:

But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

Invece voi asserite: Chiunque dice al padre o alla madre: Ciò con cui ti dovrei aiutare è offerto a Dio,

And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

non è più tenuto a onorare suo padre o sua madre. Così avete annullato la parola di Dio in nome della vostra tradizione.

Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

Ipocriti! Bene ha profetato di voi Isaia, dicendo:

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra ma il suo cuore è lontano da me.

But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Invano essi mi rendono culto, insegnando dottrine che sono precetti di uomini».

And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:

Poi riunita la folla disse: «Ascoltate e intendete!

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Non quello che entra nella bocca rende impuro l'uomo, ma quello che esce dalla bocca rende impuro l'uomo!».

Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?

Allora i discepoli gli si accostarono per dirgli: «Sai che i farisei si sono scandalizzati nel sentire queste parole?».

But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

Ed egli rispose: «Ogni pianta che non è stata piantata dal mio Padre celeste sarà sradicata.

Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

Lasciateli! Sono ciechi e guide di ciechi. E quando un cieco guida un altro cieco, tutti e due cadranno in un fosso!».

Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

Pietro allora gli disse: «Spiegaci questa parabola».

And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

Ed egli rispose: «Anche voi siete ancora senza intelletto?

Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

Non capite che tutto ciò che entra nella bocca, passa nel ventre e va a finire nella fogna?

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

Invece ciò che esce dalla bocca proviene dal cuore. Questo rende immondo l'uomo.

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

Dal cuore, infatti, provengono i propositi malvagi, gli omicidi, gli adultèri, le prostituzioni, i furti, le false testimonianze, le bestemmie.

These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Queste sono le cose che rendono immondo l'uomo, ma il mangiare senza lavarsi le mani non rende immondo l'uomo».

Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

Partito di là, Gesù si diresse verso le parti di Tiro e Sidone.

And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

Ed ecco una donna Cananèa, che veniva da quelle regioni, si mise a gridare: «Pietà di me, Signore, figlio di Davide. Mia figlia è crudelmente tormentata da un demonio».

But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

Ma egli non le rivolse neppure una parola. grida dietro».

But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Ma egli rispose: «Non sono stato inviato che alle pecore perdute della casa di Israele».

Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

Ma quella venne e si prostrò dinanzi a lui dicendo: «Signore, aiutami!».

But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.

Ed egli rispose: «Non è bene prendere il pane dei figli per gettarlo ai cagnolini».

And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

«E' vero, Signore, disse la donna, ma anche i cani si cibano delle briciole che cadono dalla tavola dei loro padroni».

Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Allora Gesù le replicò: «Donna, davvero grande è la tua fede! Ti sia fatto come desideri». E da quell'istante sua figlia fu guarita.

And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.

Allontanatosi di là, Gesù giunse presso il mare di Galilea e, salito sul monte, si fermò là.

And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:

Attorno a lui si radunò molta folla recando con sé zoppi, storpi, ciechi, sordi e molti altri malati; li deposero ai suoi piedi, ed egli li guarì.

Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

E la folla era piena di stupore nel vedere i muti che parlavano, gli storpi raddrizzati, gli zoppi che camminavano e i ciechi che vedevano. E glorificava il Dio di Israele.

Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.

Allora Gesù chiamò a sé i discepoli e disse: «Sento compassione di questa folla: ormai da tre giorni mi vengono dietro e non hanno da mangiare. Non voglio rimandarli digiuni, perché non svengano lungo la strada».

And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?

E i discepoli gli dissero: «Dove potremo noi trovare in un deserto tanti pani da sfamare una folla così grande?».

And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.

Ma Gesù domandò: «Quanti pani avete?». Risposero: «Sette, e pochi pesciolini».

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.

Dopo aver ordinato alla folla di sedersi per terra,

And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

Gesù prese i sette pani e i pesci, rese grazie, li spezzò, li dava ai discepoli, e i discepoli li distribuivano alla folla.

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.

Tutti mangiarono e furono saziati. Dei pezzi avanzati portarono via sette sporte piene.

And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

Quelli che avevano mangiato erano quattromila uomini, senza contare le donne e i bambini.

And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.

Congedata la folla, Gesù salì sulla barca e andò nella regione di Magadàn.
