Chapter 140

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;

Livra-me, ó Senhor, dos homens maus; guarda-me dos homens violentos,   

Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.

os quais maquinam maldades no coração; estão sempre projetando guerras.   

They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.

Aguçaram as línguas como a serpente; peçonha de áspides está debaixo dos seus lábios.   

Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.

Guarda-me, ó Senhor, das mãos dos ímpios; preserva-me dos homens violentos, os quais planejaram transtornar os meus passos.   

The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.

Os soberbos armaram-me laços e cordas; estenderam uma rede à beira do caminho; puseram-me armadilhas.   

I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.

Eu disse, ao Senhor: Tu és o meu Deus; dá ouvidos, ó Senhor, à voz das minhas súplicas.   

O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

Ó Senhor, meu Senhor, meu forte libertador, tu cobriste a minha cabeça no dia da batalha.   

Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.

Não concedas, ó Senhor, aos ímpios os seus desejos; não deixes ir por diante o seu mau propósito.   

As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

Não levantem a cabeça os que me cercam; cubra-os a maldade dos seus lábios.   

Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.

Caiam sobre eles brasas vivas; sejam lançados em covas profundas, para que não se tornem a levantar!   

Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

Não se estabeleça na terra o caluniador; o mal persiga o homem violento com golpe sobre golpe.   

I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.

Sei que o Senhor manterá a causa do aflito, e o direito do necessitado.   

Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

Decerto os justos louvarão o teu nome; os retos habitarão na tua presença.
